FocusPulling is a gathering place for filmmakers. Some of our best moments get spent collaborating with people on shoots and sets, but most of our creative time, we’re sitting in front of machines. Connecting with each other on social media, video sites, and blogs, we can still keep the collaborative energy going: learning, sharing, and making connections. You might already have a short list of places to go for that - and I hope you’ll include this community after taking a look. Please try out the links in the banner above, but most especially the hub at www.focuspulling.com.
The Lick: All Together Now
This is a tribute to the famous meme ruclips.net/video/krDxhnaKD7Q/видео.html by composer and trombonist Alex Heitlinger, who strung out 41 clips of musicians playing the same "lick," crowd-sourced by an online community. While the 2011 video celebrates each performer's individuality full-screen, this presentation accumulates them into a visual chorus: keeping faithful to each clip as originally seen and heard, but emphasizing their plurality in a timeless music motif.
I remastered the source clips into higher resolution, with artifacts cleaned and colors graded, just to compensate for imbalance in the original lo-fi media. The 41 remastered clips populate sequentially into a 15-panel matr...

Zoom M3 MicTrak Stereo Shotgun Microphone/Recorder Audio Tests
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.Год назад
@ZoomSoundLab have released an on-camera stereo shotgun microphone that records in 32-bit float, and it seemed like it was going to be awesome. Spoiler alert: it's terrible. This clip is audio-only, so that it can best demonstrate a raw, unmodified sound recording straight into the Zoom M3 MicTrak device, demonstrating its mediocre shock mount isolation against handling noise, but worse than an...
Norm Macdonald reads The Final Chapter from his memoir, reflecting back on his life
Просмотров 30 тыс.2 года назад
I'll never forget sitting a few rows from Norm Macdonald, almost exactly five years ago on September 22, 2016 at Sixth & I in Washington, D.C., when he read from his memoir "Based on a True Story." Now that we know he had cancer back then too, his reading of "The Final Chapter" might be the best way for us to understand what he went through, to celebrate his wit, melancholy, and kind heart. He'...
Abel Ferrara Sets the Record Straight
Просмотров 6662 года назад
Film auteur Abel Ferrara has shown an obsession with Christianity in all of his films, from "Bad Lieutenant," to "The Addiction," to his upcoming movie about Italian Saint Padre Pio. But critics and film scholars (and even his crew) often refuse to see and hear it. Within the fair use medium of a video essay, I've juxtaposed examples of dilution with Abel's own blunt apologetic - not just about...
Christopher Walken, on "Method" Acting
Просмотров 7963 года назад
A priceless moment from the former PBS series Theater Talk, when Christopher Walken explains (with characteristic brevity) how he acts. He answers in reference to his Broadway leading role in "A Behanding in Spokane." I found this resonant with David Mamet's essay collection "Theatre," who fiercely advocates work ethic (to honor the writer), above academic theory (that oddly motivates celebrity...

Cheating Subtitles: How to Add Them Easily (and Qualify for Amazon Video Direct)
I'm not playing this video, I just clicked it to say I bought norm McDonald's book years ago and took a pause on reading it. And since he died I can't bring myself to read it yet.. it feels almost sacred. I love you Norm, I know you didn't know me but I love you
Very self aware smart man.
I love you Norm.
I was in the audience at Sixth and I when this was filmed, and while I thought it was funny and well-written, I didn't really think too deeply about this passage when Norm read it. He was still alive, and no one even knew he was sick.
And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. - John 3:16 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out. - Acts 3:19 If you’re in North America, please go check out any of the churches available to you: PCA, OPC, Rpcna, Urcna, or a canrc church (These are conservative and actual Presbyterian churches) If you can’t find one of the conservative presby churches then, maybe a Lcms Lutheran church. If you are Scottish, I recommend the Free Church of Scotland and the APC. (Different from the Church of Scotland) If you’re English I recommend the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in England & Wales and the Free Church of England (Different from the Church of England) Also online you can look up church finders for each of the groups, it will show you locations And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. - Hebrews 10:24-25
Good video, although the light is much lower than others in its class. I like the bracket and mount, but other design factors are not so good. I own the Impact Combo Boom and it is a great product--although it very heavy (which is necessary since it is a boom stand product).
Yes
watching this for the umpteenth time, and i firmly believe its one of the best final chapter ive ever read. i stil remember the first time watching the full interview, and this part in particular i almost know by heart now. witty, introspective, funny, charming. as he was alive. not so now that hes dirt napping, good lord.
I loved this gimbal boht mst gimbal h mai yeh gimbal use kr rha hu
Get well soon, Norm!
How can you shoot 4k with Rx0?
With an external recorder; but there's an RX0 II with internal 4k.
@@focuspulling Which external recorders do you recommend and is it worth it?
Thank you for the video! Please recommend a microphone for recording videos and webinars. I'm looking at Zoom M3, Rode VideoMic Go II - it can connect via USB to a computer or smartphone. Maybe there is something even better for these tasks?
The Rode Wireless Pro kit is a fantastic bargain even though the price point is high, so if that works in your budget, it's the ultimate solution.
Interesting. I don't think the address of Nora & Arthur will become a tourist attraction like the house of Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw not that far away, but my registered partner and I will definitely at least once go to see the spots in the street for ourselves. From the Uber boarding point after Hae Sung asking Nora one question too much to her house where on the stoop Arthur is waiting. It seemed to me as one of the longest walks in the history of cinema. Director Song says here it's only about 150 feet, but for me it felt as if actress Lee had walked a marathon. That kind of mentall fatigue only the most wrung out and tired have. A really, yes, really magnificent shot and played scene that no one ever will forget. In American cinema the best ending since Moonlight's. If you haven't already, watch this incredible movie with also very good playing by Teo Yoo and John Magaro. And let's not forget the two Korean kids who play great too. East Village is like most NYC neighborhoods, a wonderful place to take a walk. See for yourself. But don't come to the city when we are, because then it will be too crowded in Manhattan for the both of us! Then we have to go to all the wonderful places and people in The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens or Staten Island instead! In 3 days, we'll have the Oscars. Where Hollywood congratulates itselves. I'm sorry to say, Celine, but with Oppenheimer Hollywood has THE perfect Oscar film: it's good (but not THAT good), it's big, it's loud, it's dead serious and maybe most important, it made a lot of cash. And about Greta's brilliant performance I only will say this: if Jessica Chastain didn't got even a nomination for her acting in The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby (Him & Her together, like it was showed here in The Netherlands), then it is totally logic she wasn't nominated either! Enjoy the evening anyway. But as I wrote earlier: I hope for another Song/Lee movie.
as a young man i cant understand how fast its going to go my days drag on forever all i know is i'm in my finest hour and ill regret not having done something with it
I've seen the movie 37 times, and after that I still can't say for sure what the end tells me, the viewer. Which really (yes, really) is a good thing. I hope for another Celine song/Greta Lee movie!
So you were able to film RAW to the SSD with the E2c or did you have to use a Ninja V?
‘There’s no money in playing it safe.’
You only live once....but Hitchcock, much like the postman, dines twice!
I heard this story before with other interviewers. Conan, do your damn job and MOVE IT, MOVE IT, MOVE IT!!! Interject, cajole, commiserate, anything to fill the dead space. Be like Johnny, not like Ed.
I love this story.
I don't know how those cameras work, but I want to say a joke so bad. Imagine they were just holding cameras and forgot to record.
Is this RF noise issue still happening after the replacement ones they're offering for free for those who already own M3?
It is attenuated but not eliminated.
not a true word.
Actually they want the ability to place only one figure in an image so a certain story can be told as needed - it would look weird if dear leader was the only guy in a telephoto.
And with the Oscars coming up in March 2024, they actually said the female director was snubbed because she didn’t get an Oscar nomination for directing Barbie and Alfred Hitchcock never got awarded a Oscar, however later on awarded a honorary Oscar?
Dude - you da truth! Appreciate you walkin us through all that! Just got this camera and feel this helped us learn the equipment
Strange how I find myself grieving norm’s departure even more today than I did the day before. He was like the best magic trick that kept us hypnotized, in complete awe, observing every little nuance, every subtle slight of hand, trying to discern what was real from the illusion, endlessly hoping to attain the ability to separate the magician from the magic and then just like that the show is over, the curtain closes, you leave the auditorium, return to your life but you just can’t get that guy out of your mind and you’re left wondering what it was that actually captivated you the most....was it the genius, the slight of hand and all the brilliant tricks or was it simply the creator who actually had us so mesmerized, so transfixed and forever in awe of the man behind the curtain? I love you norm. You kept us guessing and ALWAYS AND FOREVER wanting more of you. ❤
กูขำตากล้องทุกคน 😂😂😂😂
Still can't listen to him read this without tearing up. We miss you oh so much Norm. Rest well dear soul.

“You only live once and you take a shot.” I interpreted it as keep taking a shot at life. Good advice.
But, is it easier to set up? I bought the combo kit with Raveneye and I'm a little scared to attempt to set it up.
I’ve seen the movie in the movie theatre four times and on tv. I want to visit and walk the street of the last scene. What is the apartment address or the street address? Is it on East 1st street in NYC? I’ve been to China and Japan in Asia on vacation but not to South Korea yet. I like to visit some filming locations of movies I really like. It’s such an emotional, good, real life story.
He was struggling to not break down while reading this. His leg starts moving a lot, then his hand, then his foot. He carried so much with him, which is a testament to his real character. RIP, Norm.
I’ve cried watching this several times, it’s a man who very well knows his final days are numbered yet won’t crack. It’s heartbreaking.
Is it possible to set the gain level with the software (because there is no physical gain wheel)? Will it be saved into the device for using it with a smartphone for example? (Just like with the Rode Video mic go 2) I know that i don't have to set the gain level when i record in 32 bit float, but there will be many times in which I don't want to use 32 Bit float recordings... so I wonder if it's possible to set the gain in the device when using it via USB with my Smartphone for example. Thanks:)
Why would you not want to always record in 32bit? After you make your recordings, there is an app to render your audio in 24bit, but you can make all of your gain adjustments after the fact, if you record out the mini trs port, it is in 24bit, but you don't get the advantages of fixing the gain in case of a clipping.
He opens up bare naked for all to see here...I love Norm and miss him very much...He was one of a kind !!
ahh i don't think anyone wants to see that much of Norm.
I love this guy
I love norms comedy through RUclips and have read his book but hearing him read it out loud has me in tears. RIP Norm I hope you know how much you made people laugh when they really needed it❤
Damn...
Shit i only ever chased the moon metaphorically, lucky bastards!!
Hey man, my dji rs3pro is stucking at shut off 5-10 degree. How can I fold it all the way down without pressing the unlock button?! It is correctly callibrated…Thx🎉
Sorry I'm not getting the exact problem, but is it that you had to extend the length of any axis so much that it can't clear the opening/gap? There are rare, but possible, camera/lens configurations that simply go there, with no solution besides temporarily reducing the gap until it fits. Didn't happen to me, though, with an a7 IV and prime lens that's not too big/heavy.
I’m also experiencing this same issue. My setup is exactly the same in the video and every time I shut it down the gimbal doesn’t fold completely. Very frustrating.
@@_junney This is happening to me, and after I researched it, it's a safety feature that dji put into the fold down procedure where there's a certain sized camera on it, because the axis arms may collide if extended out too far. It doesn't really make sense, and I couldn't find any way around it except for having to click the unlock button on one of the arms, which then allows you to completely fold it down.
@@jsparrowau ah that makes perfect sense. Still super annoying to do considering all the videos I watched folds down perfectly 😭 guess it’s something I have to live with. Thanks for looking into it 👍
same happening with me weird for the price @@_junney
love u so so much Norm...
I came here because I have a theory the ending of the film is inspired by Leonard Cohen's song Famous Blue Raincoat, which includes the line, "I like where I'm living / there's music on Clinton Street all through the evening." Clinton Street is a 15 minute walk from East 1st. The character Nora in the film is named after Leonard Cohen, by her father as he listens to "Hey That's No Way to Say Goodbye" from Songs of Leonard Cohen ("Walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme..."). But it's the lyrics of FBR that chime most, "you treated my woman to a flake of your life / And when she came back she was nobody's wife ... I see you there with the rose in your teeth / One more thin gypsy thief ... I guess I forgive you / I'm glad you stood in my way / If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me / Well, your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free."
According to Harlan, who I met around 1998 in San Diego, he had sex with at least 500 women. What's more amazing is that he was 5'5", two of those inches his penis. Ba-dump-bump. A big influence in writing and early life, though most of his liberal beliefs have been replaced with reality.
How do you setup 4k on this?
